Why the name “Songbird Landcare”?

I’m frequently asked, “how did you come up with the name ‘Songbird Landcare’”? Though the environment is a priority in treatment decisions, the “lions share” of the answer is centered upon an issue that I learned of several years ago and have since become involved with: habitat loss due to the rapid spread of non-native invasive plants.

If you’re unfamiliar with what a non-native invasive plant is, in a nutshell, it’s a plant that’s introduced to an area by way of human intervention, and subsequently spreads and displaces the native vegetation of the respective area, causing economic harm, environmental harm, or harm to human health. They often have perilous effects on the habitat of native songbirds and are a leading cause for the loss of local species populations, as well as species extinction. That’s serious business for songbirds, other wildlife, nature boys like myself, and others.

There are approximately 150 non-native plants documented as a threat or probable threat to Georgia’s natural areas. A current list can be found at

To help combat the problem, I became involved with the Georgia Exotic Pest Plant Council (GA-EPPC), and eventually served as president.  Though no longer president, I continue to help “spread the message” by speaking to groups and helping to organize educational workshops.

Due to my experience and education, I realized that in addition to the quality Lawn Care, Tree/Shrub Care, and Majestic Tree Care services that we provide, we can also help with habitat preservation and restoration by providing non-native invasive plant control services.

In all that we do, we try to protect songbirds and other wildlife, and in some cases, even improve conditions for them.  And, I like songbirds, so “Songbird Landcare” came to be.
